| | mildly frustrated | ] | So I am writing my first big paper of the quarter on a poem, 4-5 pages; not long by college standards, but nonetheless the longest paper I've ever had to write, especially on a poem. It's actually going pretty good so far; plenty of stuff to talk about. But I'm finding that reading primarily non-fiction, engineering textbooks etc. has taken a toll on my writing style. I can't stop writing my paper like I'm explaining physics to someone... |

Today I realized a tranformation I've gone through since last quarter. I worked all day through. And I don't care.
I feel content and complete. |

| | A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms | ] | Man, first day back and school's already got me loaded. It looks like I'm gonna be doing lots of reading and lots of writing this quarter, as compared with before. I'm very happy about this, except that it will leave me very short on time. So I hope to get faster as the quarter progresses.
I just received my book for my philosophy class, a class that is specifically designed for Computer Science majors. It's called Symbolic Logic I, and it pretty much seems to be the philosophy of math. I'm sure this is about the most dryest class a person can take, and tomorrow I shall confirm this.
I had two core CS classes today, and it looks like we have a pretty close-knit little group of 10. The majority of them are of course new faces, but I'm already beginning to feel assimilated.
Already the programming is getting more interesting. We're finally using Java, and our first project is to make a simple shooting game, Atari style. This is a step up from the page rank calculator we did in my last programming class... So this means that I have lots of new stuff to learn, and I have to somehow learn how to apply it all within our team, which to our professor, is represented by a row in a matrix of numbered students, and then the columns... and then the diagonals... then the other diagonals...
So anyways, lots and lots to keep me busy. But it all looks more or less interesting, and particularly DEVOID of math, or atleast integrodifferiental equations. This will be nice for a change. |

| | anxious | ] | Tomorrow's my first day of school since 6 months, and I'm very eager to go back. Co-op was a good time, but my duties there were beginning to get repetitive and were definitely starting to wear on me. I'm ready to learn lots of new stuff, and it looks like it's going to be very refreshing.
I changed my major to Computer Science, and because of this, a lot of the classes I'm taking should be a lot different than what I have taken before. Computer Science is a lot more liberal artsy than the other engineering professions, and so I get a lot more freedom to take other subjects, something I am very exciting about. Also, I get the grand honor of taking English Composition III as a Junior, which, unlike all the other engineering disciples, is required for Comp Sci. But I'm looking forward to it because I've been so isolated from the subjective side of school for so long.
Well, I'm turning in early tonight. Gotta be mentally acute to handle the akward commute to school with my brother. |

[Nov. 27th, 2005|07:33 pm] |
Despite being a little sick at it's start, I had a good Thanksgiving break. Got to hang with the Grandparents, and some of the other out-of-towners, ate good food, listened to good music, and got some website stuff done, and even payed off my laptop and straighten out my finances.
Now I just have to work lots and lots through to the 23rd of December doing the whole co-op and Kohls thing, and then I think I will finally decide to free myself from the Kohls gig for the New Year. Sounds like a good resolution to me. |

Did you go to someone else's prom? Kinda, but not really.
Would you give your bf/gf a second chance if they cheated on you? Most likely not, but there are always exceptions.
SOME STRANGE QUESTIONS:
Something purple within 5 feet of you: Header graphic on a note on my bed.
If the Matrix existed, would you want to know?: I wouldn't want to know, but would, if that makes sense. The many different levels of "want".
How long can you hold your breath underwater? Last I remember, I could just make it the entire length of a lap pool, but now I'd prolly be belly up.
Favorite Pocky flavor: What the hell is Pocky? From what I gather it's rather creamy, and I like creamy.
Your nails were last painted: Back in high school due to a certain girl who was up to no good...heh
The weirdest thing you've ever heated in the microwave: Rice in a sock, yum.
Ever done the Electric Slide?: Heh, not very successfully.
How much Japanese do you know?: Ka-neech-ee-waa.
Ever crash a car, been in accidents?: Not by myself, but have been in a minor one with my parents and Dave had his little moment...
Do you look good in yellow?: I wouldn't think so.
Do you sing?: It's a long commute, and no one likes to fall assleep at the wheel, so definitely.

How many tickets do you have?: Uno.
How long have you been driving?: 20 - 16 = 4
How many parking tickets?: None that cost me anything.
Do you own your own car?: Nope.
What kind of car is it?: '85 Homo Sapian.
How old were you when you had your first kiss?: Oh, how I miss those precious days on the playground...I was only in my early teens. But seriously, I miss playgrounds.
How old were you when you had your First official date? If you count dances and such, than Homecoming Junior year.
How old were you when you had your first REAL boyfriend/girlfriend?: OK time for more math. Lets see, 20 + years it takes Andrew to grow a full beard = brother whose getting worried. Huh, that didn't really help any.
Were you in love?: Of course, but then I ate her all up. Best burrito I ever ate.
Do you want to get married?: Pretty much at the top.
At what age do you want to get married?: When I find her.
Have you ever been married? Haven't found her.
At what age do you want to have kids?: I was thinking I should probably wait a while, but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to.
How many kids?: An armful. I always wanted a little sister, and the feeling I get when I hang with my lil' cousins (girls) is indescribable, so I'd really like to have a girl.
Do you believe in divorce?: I'm not a big fan of that sport.

| | tired, but motivated | ] | So work is life right now. But it's not so bad. It got a little slow in the beginning of the week 'cause there was a lack of things to do, and I spent most of the time getting more and more puzzled at the results we were getting trying to program a microcontroller. The software simulation of it worked fine, but once we transfered it to the chip, wierd stuff started happening. But we finally got that straightened out, and now, in midweek, things are starting to pick up again, which is cool. It's great being able to come into work knowing exactly what you're going to do, but NOT having it be the same thing all day, everyday. Change is important, and weekends are becoming even more so, heh.
*IMPORTANT* I should mention that The Star Killers show this Friday at the Southgate House is apparently 21 AND UP. I didn't know this before and so I assume others probably don't as well. I just wanted to make sure no body ends up driving down or canceling other plans or whatnot only to find that they can't get in. That just happened to me last Sat. and it blows. I wish they wouldn't do that to us, but I guess it saves them having to buy a liquor license for 18+. |

FIRSTS
First best friend: Jeff Kautz, since we were toddlers. Then he moved away around 2nd grade. First kiss: I guess it would be Lauren Paluch. A confusing affair for me, but then again what isn't. First piercing/tattoo: Yet to be detemined. First big trip: The biggest trip I've taken is down to Florida. Not so big. First flight: Hopefully sometime soon. First time skiing/Snowboarding: Outdoor Rec. class, I think Junior year. It was awesome, and hilarious. Definitely want to do it again. First ticket violation: Miami parking ticket, but that's not really a ticket, so cross-county speeding ticket would be up next. First date: A curious question. First job: Brit's hookup with the Lazy Gourmet catering gig at Riverbend.
LASTS
Last car ride: Don't remember, prolly with Dave? Last kiss: Drunken spin the bottle. Last time you cried: Spring Last movie watched: King Arthur with the dad. Last crush: Heh, I couldn't tell ya. Last temptation: Sleep Last item bought: Big ol' cheesesteak from Penn Station when I went out to lunch with my farmer friend. Last annoyance: Driving east in the morning...damn sun always running me off the road Last phone call: Dave. BAM. Last time at the mall: With the band to go shopping for an "outfit" a month or two ago. How pleasantly unproductive that was, heh heh. Last friend you added on MYSPACE: NOBODY. |

| | Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV... | ] | So I started my co-op last week, and it's been a pretty intense two weeks. I'm liking it a lot so far, 8 hours is nothing when your working on ten different things and moving back and forth between office and lab and talking blues with one of the technicians. It neat to be around all the different circuits and chips and stuff that we are designing. It's a cool experience get the see it all, from the initial conception on paper to being assembled and tested by hand. I feel like I'm learning tons about how this field works, and I'm finally getting a little assurance that this is what I'm interested in, which is definitely nice. Everybody there is pretty cool too. It's a small company, maybe only 20 engineers or so, and so it's really close-knit.
Still keeping up with my other job at good ol' Kohl's. Suprisingly, going in after an 8 hour day isn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be. I guessing since I'm already in the work mode and ready to go, there's no dreading it. So we'll see how long I can keep this up for... I'm seeing it as a challenge.
The band's keeping me pretty busy too. During the week I have pretty much spent my evenings either working or playing with the band. I have found it to be very refreshing to come off a long day and just crash and work on music. But as always...I need to find some more time to write some stuff. I feel like I can contribute more. I have an idea of what direction I think we can move in though, and so I'm pretty anxious to get moving. Oh, and for anybody that might be interested... Our first show is tomorrow/today (Saturday), at The Mad Frog. It starts at 10:00 pm, and we're playing with Red Dahlia (who I hear is pretty good from a certain Athens connection... heh heh), and yeah so that should be fun stuff.
Picked up the new Coheed album (naturally), and yet again I was met with initial disappointment that quickly evolved into infectious. Happens every damn time. The first listen is always indiscernible. But now, it is all that runs through my veins.
Well, I guess that's about all I got in me for now. |

Anyways, I ended up with IAP Research, Inc. up in Dayton (the rail gun people), and it looks as if I'll be doing a fall/winter double section which is sweet. That means no more school until next Spring! Shame to miss all those long walks to school in the bitter cold... So now my greatest priority is getting my tunes fixed in the van, 'cause there will be much commuting. I'm gonna listen to so much music... |

| | System of a Down - Mezmerize | ] | Spent the whole afternoon and evening messin' around with all my gear, which is now all spread out in my currently parentless basement. I went through my effects processer's manual and discovered some interesting features that I had never noticed/understood before. Came up with a few new ways to improve my sound too, for both amps. I think I finally figured out a good compromise between my Mesa and effects, its quite nice to have delay runnin' through that thing. Still a few kinks to work out though, but I'm on my way.
Brother got orientation tomorrow and Friday at UC. Interesting. It's kinda wierd to think he's going to the same school as me, especially since it is for practically the same thing. We're so alike in such different ways.
Finally picked up the new System of a Down CD. I'm not completely sure what to think of it as of now. I'm basically torn between the lyrics and the music. They're as politically-driven as ever, which doesn't always appeal to me. But they've grown in a new direction that's interesting and fresh to me, and it has definitely has rekindled an old flame in me.
All that's left for me this week is one (hopefully short) lab tomorrow then two exams on Friday. I'm worried, but not yet concerned about the exams. We're allowed a cheat sheet and such for both of them, which hopefully means they shouldn't be too bad, but I can only wait and see... |

| | The Shins | ] | Well, this turned out to be a pretty interesting week for me. I was asked to jam with the remaining members of Digammi and so Friday night, I went on over and we jammed on a bunch of new material they had. It was a kind of strange experience since I had never jammed with any of them before, and with Rob gone, I got that kind of feeling of being copied and pasted in. But nonetheless, I enjoyed myself. Playing their style of music I thought might take getting used to, but to my surprise it felt fairly familiar to play along with. I also like to way they do things, and was impressed with their musical senses. I felt like I tapped into a creative level that I don't generally get to too often, so it felt good. I feel I got a lot out of it and look forward to jamming with them again.
In other music news, Dave has been slaving away all week on the album and now we have vocals. This means I can now go ahead and try to add a little extra flavor to some of the songs. I've been meaning to do this since we first recorded guitar, but felt I need the guidance of the vocals the help guide me to what would be appropraite. So this is very good.
In more music news, I finally worked out some of the kinks some of the stuff I've been working on. Progress always feels good.
The b-day party last night was a unique one. I had a good time hanging with everyone and it was good to see some familiar faces that I hadn't seen in while. I found out that I'm not too hot at playing the assasin wink-wink game (among other games), though I am pretty good at carrying on a conversion about the assasin wink-wink game WITH the assasin, DURING the game, WITHOUT noticing their constant winking at me... I also found that while a certain pink alcoholic beverage may be considered "girly", it is very tasty and that is all that I require in a drink. ...not that I had any...shhhhh |

| | Jimmy Eat World - Static Prevails | ] | So I started school this past week. It is pretty intense, but awesome, which is kinda strange. Most of my classes are pretty interesting, particularly Electronics I where we've already started to learn how to design amplifiers and low and high cut filters and all that good stuff that I been waiting all year to learn about.
With school comes a whole new sleep schedule. My classes start at 8:00 for most of the week, so I've been gettin' up at around 5 and so my days are a lot longer now. Unfortunately, even arriving in clifton at 7:00 in the morning during the summmer STILL doesn't guaranttee me a good parking spot. Even so, it is nice to be done with school by 12:00.
Campus is pretty erie during summer quarter. The campus is a ghost town, and everyone that I knew from previous quarter is co-oping, and so my classes are all full of new faces. It seems like an entirely different place.
I also got my first CO-OP phone call this week! It was for a job in San Diego, CA! Unfortunately, they were looking for a summmer co-op, so it was a pretty short-lived phone call. But it's nice to know that I'm out there, especially on the west coast. I wasn't expecting any calls for while.
I guess that's it for now. |
